WELCOME
        WELCOME
Welcome to our 45th Performance sale to be held February 17, 2020, at Kist Livestock Auction, Mandan ND.
The year, 2020 appears to be off to a better start for the cattle market than the year we just left behind. The market for
high quality feeder cattle was signifi cantly higher the fi rst weeks of January. The fat cattle market is slowly improving, and
the slaughter cow market took a big jump upwards on the fl esher, higher yielding cows. It seems we have turned the corner
on the cattle markets into an upward trend.
Customer demand for beef and particularly higher quality, branded beef continues to grow with even more demand for
higher Choice and Prime product. New records were set this past year for the price differences between Select and low-
Choice beef versus the higher Choice and Prime grading product. The demand for Certifi ed Angus Beef continues to
grow. For the 15th consecutive year, sales of Certifi ed Angus Beef has increased to reach a record high of 1.25 billion
pounds sold in 2019. That is over 3.4 million pounds of Certifi ed Angus Beef sold per day to customers domestically and
internationally. What a remarkable achievement and one that all of segments of the cattle industry that produce high
quality Angus beef need to be proud of.
I am confi dent that the cattle and genetics that you invest in today will produce some of the greatest returns and highest
prices that we have seen in many years.
We feel that we have a great set of bulls and heifers to offer in our February 17, 2020, sale. As always, we will have several
new sire groups representing the freshest genetics that the Angus breed has to offer as well as sire lines from the past that
have excelled in our environment. Our fi rst DL Sonic 444 progeny are very long-bodied cattle with low birth weights and
tremendous performance. Another new sire group are the Basin Payweight Plus sons. They are thick made, easy fl eshing
and are bound to leave some top-notch females.
The Tokach females are as deep ribbed and easy fl eshing as usual. The Tokach females are what our reputation is built
around. They are bred and developed to run in big country with a minimum of inputs and care. They are big-outlined,
broody females that are like peas in a pod and all carry that trademark “TOKACH FEMALE” look.
All the registered cattle will have genomic enhanced EPDs once again which provides you with the most accurate and up
to date genetic predications the industry has to offer. We were one of the fi rst to embrace this industry changing technolo-
gy and are fi nally starting to see it become standard practice for other seedstock producers.
The sale cattle have been handled the same as in the past. The cattle have not been on creep feed and are on home grown
feed with a protein and mineral supplement. The bulls were weaned in mid-October and the bred heifers taken off grass
on December 1. Birth weight are taken with a scale, weaning weights taken at weaning and yearling weights taken just in
time for this catalog to go to press.
The cattle can be seen at Kist’s Livestock Auction in Mandan from February 15th until sale time. Prior to that time, they
and the cowherd can be seen at the ranch at your convenience.
Thank you to all our customers
