P. 2
Dear Friends,
We are pleased to offer our proven fall calving cows that are six years and older in
our fi rst on-line sale. These are cows that have made major contributions to the Red
Hill program. The cows are the result of generations of selection to improve Fertil-
ity, Stayability, Udder Quality, and Feet and Leg Soundness. Also, Disposition has
always been of major importance in the development of the Red Hill program. While
economically relevant cow herd traits have driven the Red Hill Selection Program,
we have always attempted to drag along as much growth and carcass superiority as
possible. We are also offering semen packages from the sires that have been used to
develop the Red Hill program.
Our farms are located in South Central Kentucky and Northern Middle Tennessee
where KY-31 Fescue is the predominant forage crop. All our permanent pastures,
both owned and leased, are exclusively KY- 31 based pastures. Needless to say, it
has been necessary to select cattle that are adaptable to Fescue. We have learned
that the key to adaptability is “hair shedding” in early spring. For the last 4 years all
Red Hill and Red Hill cooperator herds have been scored for hair shedding as herds
involved in a University of Missouri research study. Also, there are now research
fi ndings to indicate that early shedding cattle likely have an enzymatic profi le that al-
lows those cattle to metabolize the detrimental components of fescue before entering
the blood stream. It appears that fescue adaptable cattle have the potential to thrive
in most other environments in the US.
We have retained daughters and sold bulls from most cows in this offering. There
are foundation and fl ush quality cows in this offering. This would be a great opportu-
nity for new breeders to establish an outstanding cow herd quickly or for established
breeders to add proven genetics. We would like the opportunity to show these cows
or to answer any questions about the cows or the service sires.
We are most thankful to all previous customers and to those who have shown inter-
est in the Red Hill program.
