Welcome to Green Mountain RED Angus!
As they say, ‘Home is where the heart is.’ And what a lesson learned this
past year! We think this statement has become truer than ever as people
realized they didn’t need to leave home to fi nd the good things in life. We
proudly feel that is something that those of us in the ag industry already
knew. So, while we stayed home and self-quarantined, we found out this
was something most of us had been training for our entire life. Nothing
takes precedence over our crops and cattle and families. Nobody needed
to tell us to stay home to fi gure this out. What a tribute to all of us in
production agriculture!
During this past year the consumer has realized how their life has changed
from a focus on, shall we say, the less important things in life, to the more
basic necessities. Moving forward this does nothing but give us optimism
for the future of the cattle markets. Now more than ever we need to con-
centrate on moving our herds forward and providing top quality beef that
makes a positive impression. Always keep in mind that your new genetics
will be your most advanced genetics. If you are contemplating keeping
that older bull one more year, this just might be the year to decide to move
forward and upgrade your bull battery. As technology progresses, we are
available to more readily identify the cattle that will excel in various facets
of production, and here at GMRA we utilize everything we can to provide
you with the most comprehensive and accurate data in the industry.
When looking through this catalog you will see a nice blend of heifer bulls
and growth bulls, including several that will be able to transition into
your mature cow herd after being used in the heifer pasture. We strive
Tom, Katie, Jim, Julie and Bob Morton to provide bulls that can excel in more than just one arena. Many bulls in
this offering fi t that bill and will be able to provide calving ease as well as
growth and carcass. It’s obvious as you look through this offering that we pay very close attention to the RAAA indices and EPDs with the goal of provid-
ing our customers with infallible number sets that stay strong across the board. We take DNA samples on every bull and receive genomically enhanced
EPDs to increase the accuracy of those numbers so you can feel confi dent in your choices. As always, we do full physical evaluations on the bulls to
evaluate phenotype and disposition. Even though the RAAA has not yet defi ned a reporting structure for feet and legs, we do our own evaluations based
on industry standards and have been doing this for years. This is invaluable as we have seen our feet structure improve yearly, to the point that we simply
don’t see any unacceptable rankings.
As we approach the 2021 sale we move forward with optimism and excitement. The beef industry is poised to become stronger than ever, with Red
Angus at the forefront. 2020 has taught us that perseverance is a trait that runs strong in the rural communities, yet we do need to remember not to take
anything for granted. In addition to a promising future for Red Angus, the Morton family is looking forward to some very exciting changes in 2021. Jim
will be graduating from the MSU school of photography in May. He is coming back to the ranch with the knowledge that he can continue to pursue his
passion of documenting the ranching way of life through his lens. In June, Tom is getting married and we are welcoming Katie Harris to the family. Katie
is a perfect match for Tom and a great addition to the GMRA crew.
We are truly honored to have been a part of the Red Angus community for over 35 years. Whether you are a seasoned Red Angus cattleman or new to
the breed, the crew at Green Mountain Red Angus would like to thank you for putting your trust in our program. We hope you enjoy looking at the genetic
packages offered here. Please reach out if you would like any additional information to help with your genetic selections. Stay well and we look forward to
seeing you on sale day!
