Welcome
W elcome
Dear Cattlemen,
Welcome to our 43rd Annual Bull Sale. Since the inception of our cattle busi-
ness 63 years ago, we’ve always strived to identify cow families that thrive un-
der western range conditions. We’ve managed to do this first through Montana
Beef Performance Association and now thru AHIR. Individual performance and
cow production records have always been the driving force in our program. We
know each cow family’s strengths and weaknesses and mate them accordingly.
Our cowherd is culled relentlessly for mothering ability and fertility. The sires
we use in our program make practical and predicable progeny.
We don’t use bulls just because they are supposed to be the “next big thing.”
My dad always told me if a young, hot bull is good, let someone else prove
Ken and Alice them out and once they have proven themselves, we will use them. If they
bomb out, then we didn’t make the mistake of jumping on the bandwagon to
soon.
The bulls selling are stout and will increase weaning weight and leave a mouth-
watering set of females that will add value to your herd. Our bulls are grown
out in a 30-acre pasture, sensibly developed, and are hard bodied and athletic.
They don’t just lay in a feedlot getting fat and lazy. They have been perfor-
mance tested, PAP tested, fertility tested and ready to go to work for you.
When you view the bulls, you will see functional cattle full of muscle, length
and structural correctness. Remember when you are buying bulls, they are
only as good as the cows in his pedigree. As my dad Raymond always said,
“Hyline Angus, Where the Cowherd makes the Difference!” That’s what makes
our bulls better – the cowherd behind them.
Ben, Kirby & Leo
I would like to say the young females in the herd, sired by Revolution and the 338 Derivatives are making some really
great females. By reintroducing the Wye bloodline through Candolier Forever 376 into the herd, we accomplished just
what we thought it would do when we purchased Revolution. Functional, fertile, feminine females that raise monster
calves and really turn heads!
We are proud to be a family operation. Ben and his wife Kirby, and their son Leo, make this a fourth-generation operation.
Mark and Kenny and their families farm here in the valley and in Chester, MT, and Ryan and his family have a large prop-
erty maintenance and snow removal business. They are all willing to lend a hand when we need them. Thanks also to my
wife Alice for all her help.
This year once again we welcome Lucht Angus to our sale. They will bring 30 coming 2-year-old bulls with some of the
best genetics from the cow families of VDAR. They are turned out on high-mountain pasture and taken off grass in late
fall. It’s been really great working with them. They are always willing to lend a hand when we need help, and we’ve enjoyed
helping them also. That’s the way it ought to be!
New this year the sale will be broadcast on DVAuction, we will have videos of all the bulls prior to the sale.
Join us on February 25, 2022, at Headwaters Livestock for a delicious tri-tip lunch at noon
with the sale starting at 1 p.m. Good conversation and a great set of bulls.
Thanks, Ken and Ben Van Dyke
