Commercial Bred Heifers Red Hill Farms – Fall 2022
              Pedigo Farms (Fountain Run, KY)

Pedigo Farms is a family operation located in Fountain Run, Kentucky, managed by Al
Pedigo and his son, John. The farming operation includes burley tobacco, corn, soybeans,
and a 400-cow commercial beef cattle herd.

The cattle operation began in 1932 when Al’s grandfather became an Angus seedstock pro-
ducer. When Al became farm manager, he realized he could improve reproduction efficiency
and growth rate by crossbreeding. Al introduced Brangus, Herford, and Gelbvieh to take
advantage of hybrid vigor. For the last 15 years, Al and John have been using SimAngus,
Red Angus and Cross-Ty bulls from Red Hill Farms. Their bred heifer offering is a hand-se-
lected group bred artificially to Calving Ease Red Hill herd bulls.

“Don’t miss out on nature’s lowest cost gift. It’s too bad that there aren’t more
seedstock producers making good composite bulls and that more of you com-
mercial breeders aren’t seeking the opportunity to take advantage of heterosis and
          breed complementarity.”
