WELCOME
WELCOME
Welcome to our 48th Annual Performance sale to be held February 20th, 2023 at Kist Livestock Auction, Mandan ND.
To start, I want to extend a warm THANK YOU to all our customers and friends who have supported our sales over the past 48
years. Without your support, encouragement and critique, we would not have been able to sustain this operation for the second and
now third generation of providing Angus seedstock to our customers. Along the way we have become friends with some wonderful
individuals and families. Cattle producers are truly some of the greatest people on earth. We are truly blessed.
The cattle business and especially the ANGUS business is strong and getting stronger. Certified Angus Beef has set the bar high with
over 1.2 billion lbs. of product sold during fiscal year 2022. Business plans for many of the new and upcoming packing plants are to
kill only high-quality Black Angus cattle. Many feedlots are only buying black-hided calves with known genetic potential for quality
and gain ability. While it is easier to assign an economic value at the packing plant or across the scale at the local auction barn, we
understand that it all starts at the Angus cow. Without the Angus cow bringing home a big strapping calf each fall regardless of
droughts or blizzards, the rest simply does not matter.
We have an outstanding set of bulls to offer again this year. We have a large group of Sitz Resilient sons that are big, stout, long-bod-
ied and have excellent maternal and carcass potential. For the second year, we are offering sons of Growth Fund, Commodore and
Alternative. All three of these bulls bring additional performance, muscle and great dispositions. We also have smaller groups of bulls
from some of our favorite standbys as well as our own compliment of walking sires. If you want a calving ease bull, a high growth
bull, a carcass bull, or some combination of all three, we have it in the offering.
Our reputation has long been built around the TOKACH females. Hard working, low input females that have been bred and de-
veloped to run in big country with a minimum of care. They are big outlined, broody females that carry the trademark “TOKACH
FEMALE” look. Our 2023 offering of bred replacement heifers were synchronized and A. I. bred to either Tehama Tahoe, a widely
used calving and maternal bull from the Select Sires stud or Tehama Patriarch from the ABS Bull Stud and known for his maternal
abilities, calving ease and solid, sound structure.
All the registered cattle have been AngusGS tested to ensure pedigree integrity and provide the most accurate and up to date genetic
predications the industry has to offer.
Videos of the sale offering will be posted on DVAuction just like they have in the past for your viewing and buying convenience.
Richard & Ben would welcome phone calls on any of the sale offering. They see and feed the sale offering daily and know them bet-
ter than anyone. They may be a bit biased knowing the genetics behind the sale offering but they will be honest in their opinions. We
also would encourage you to stop out at the ranch at any time to see the bulls in person and the environment they were raised in.
The sale cattle have been handled the same as in the past. The cattle have not been creep fed and are currently on home grown feed
with a protein and mineral supplement. The bulls were weaned in early October and the bred heifers sorted off on December 1st.
Birth weight are taken with a scale, weaning weights taken at weaning and yearling weights taken just in time for this catalog to go
to press.
The cattle can be seen at Kist Livestock Auction in Mandan from February 18th until sale time. Prior to that time, they and the
cowherd can be seen at the ranch at your convenience. Thank you to all our customers.
