Welcome
Quality Genetics Built on a Heritage of Commitment
Dear Friends,
Welcome our 15th Annual joint production sale of Heart River Ranch and Open A Angus. We appreciate your past
patronage and hope to serve you for many more years to come. Sale time is one of our favorite times of year as
it offers us the opportunity to see our loyal customers of the past and meet with new customers – the best part is
learning more about your operations. It has been a pleasure to have the opportunity to serve you these past 15
years.
We continue our focus on the commercial producer, maternal influence in our selection process will always be a
priority. Although we have been known to sample some bulls with high marks in growth and carcass traits, we are
dedicated to do so with full knowledge that the maternal end of those genetics are rock solid. This will allow us to
continue to provide the consistency to move your herd forward without sacrificing the longevity and maternal value
of the cow. As we have long recognized, there is no economic factor that has more impact on the profitability of
the ranch than the ability of the cow to produce a calf year after year. Consequently, fitting the genetics to thrive
within the confines of the ranching environment to achieve a sustainable balance is why both of our operations have
diligently researched understanding the implications of how we manage our cattle genetics and grazing resources.
Cattle prices continue to notch up this past year and at press time there is a whole lot of optimism for beef demand
both internationally and nationally. Several analysts predict that the inventory of cows and feeders as measured
semi-annually will approach records for lows. Hopefully you are positioned to take advantage of better prices ahead.
As always we are ready to assist you in any way we can in your selection process and in providing any information
you may need in your selections. You are welcome to view the bulls any time at the development lot just three miles
south of Belfield on HWY 85, just turn west at 40th St. SW and continue to the top of the hill. The coffee is on and
we look forward to your visit. Additional information will be provided by sale day and posted online as we gather it.
You can also find pictures, videos and updated performance data such as carcass ultrasound and updated EPDS
at www.openaangus.com, www.heartrivergenetics.com or www.dvauction.com as it is made available.
We have a program scheduled for Tuesday, March 7 at 3:00 pm, Dr. Philip Kesterson, DVM, will address “Building
and Managing a Yearly Herd Health Plan”. We will also have a ribeye roast dinner on Tuesday evening as we have
previously with a short program. Come early to inspect the bulls and take a little time to relax and visit with friends
and neighbors. We thank you again for your dedicated support and interest in our programs and we look forward to
seeing you on the 7th and 8th of March.
