SHON SMOKING HICKORY, also lovingly known as Goose, is a 9-year-old
AQHA gelding. He is stout made and stands a solid 15 hands. He is
most definitely a barn favorite! Everyone has to take turns riding him
and he is the one that everyone fights over to ride each day! His friendly
personality shows, as he is always greeting you with pricked ears. Goose
has been a ranch horse his whole life. He has pasture roped and doctored many cows.
He has worked in the branding pen and drug countless calves to the fire. He is sure
footed in all terrains and isn’t worried if he gets into a sticky situation. He keeps his
cool and takes his time to get out of trouble. Aside from working on the ranch, he has
been hauled and rodeoed on and taken to many team roping jackpots. He will back into
the box and rope both ends. Looking for doing a little lower stress riding? Goose loves
to go on trail rides. He camps on the highline overnight. Crosses creeks, ditches, logs,
etc. He will ride anywhere in the group or out alone. He is traffic safe and has been ridden on the back country roads. Tractors and other equipment around the barn don’t phase
him either. Goose handles all situations with grace and confidence. He will walk, jog, and lope nicely in the arena. We trust Goose enough to ride with lesser experienced riders on
him as well as riding double on trail rides with our toddlers. When you just want to relax and have a little fun, you can hop on him bareback with a halter and lead rope and go ride.
Goose stands excellent for the farrier. He is easy to catch and gets along well in a herd situation. He has nice stalls manners and stands for tacking and mounting. Goose has nice
ranch horse type bloodlines. On his sire side, he goes back to the great HIGH BROW HICKORY, LTE $222,928. Please call for more information.

Howie is as kind as he is pretty, a flashy Tobiano Paint standing 14.1H,
without a mean bone in his body. He is one of the rare, born gentle, types
that just wants to get along. He is calm and quiet and doesn’t cause
problems anywhere you put him. At 4 years old he has pretty much seen
it all from ranch life, being hauled to town, to packing beginners and kids
around, he is the horse we grab when we need something safe and consistent. Howie
has always been a willing performer and has stepped up to the task, whatever job is
presented to him. He has done every job on a ranch including gathering large pastures
with rugged terrain, branding, doctoring, etc. He has spent most of the last year in
performance training and could easily step into the show pen and hold his own. He’s
got a big stop, stylish movement and is very consistent in his carriage, making him
the perfect horse for a competitive non pro that wants to be able to take him home and enjoy him outside of the show pen as well. Even after sitting for long periods, Howie is the
same horse he was when you left him. He will ride out on trails the same alone or in a group, easily rates to his rider’s comfort level, travelling in an easy-going manner at every
gait and speed. We have yet to find an obstacle that he says no to, at worst he will hesitate while he reads the situation but persuading him to move past or through something
new has never been a cause for drama. We have also started heeling on him and he shows a lot of potential as a heel or breakaway horse, rating well and always stopping big. You
don’t find horses like Howie very often and he really is the horse most people need. The fact that he is gorgeous and flashy enough to show is just a bonus on top of his kind eye
and easy disposition. He really is a gem, and we’d love to chat with you more about him, give his trainer Joe a call with any questions at 805-717-7256.
