Red Angus – Welcome
Greetings from the Ellefson Ranch
We here at Ellefson Ranch would like to welcome you to our first ever online
bull and commercial female sale. This is a family run operation that consists of
a very maternal commercial cowherd along with a small, but powerful regis-
tered herd. My wife Jamie and I along with our two children Wesson (7) and
Witten (2) love this way of life and are grateful every day for the opportunity to
raise cattle/crops together.
Enough about us let’s talk about our cow herd! We have very firm beliefs on
what the ideal Red Angus cow should be. Our focus areas in a nutshell are
the following: fertility, feet, structure, disposition, and phenotype in that order.
The reason for that is simple, we want a cow that gets pregnant on time, won’t
kill you at calving, is good footed, and ideally can wean 10+ first cut calves in
their lifetime. We can say with the utmost confidence that our culling process
is unmatched, these cows do not get a second chance around here, whether
it be fertility, feet, disposition, etc. Although culling can be a little financially
intimidating sometimes, we are committed to making better breeding stock for
our family and our customers to benefit from long term.
Our sale bulls are a product of our small but mighty registered cow herd and
we invite you to come take a look. This year we decided to sell our bulls as
Dalton, Jamie, 18 months old instead of yearlings for a few basic reasons. The main reason
Wesson & Witten Ellefson is that we want to make cattle without structure issues that sometimes are a
605-864-9738 result of overfeeding in preparation for selling yearling breeding stock. The bulls
daltone2farms@gmail.com have been developed over 18 months without being pushed on feed and are
in their everyday working clothes. These bulls couldn’t pick a creep feeder out
of a police lineup! That being said, we definitely value feed performance and
evaluate our own steers every winter in the feed yard. After all market pounds
pays the bills.
Thank you for the interest in our program and we invite you to contact us with
any questions you may have about the cattle. Cattle will be available for view-
ing anytime at the ranch as well as videos online at DVAuction.
