P. 2
Welcome!
Cattleman, Friends and Neighbors,
We would like to invite you to our 56th Annual Production Sale on Saturday, Jan-
uary 13th. On behalf of the Dethlefs’, we want to thank all of our friends, neigh-
bors, and customers that have made it possible for us all of these years. We have
been so fortunate to have met so many good people and good customers over the
years throughout raising Angus cattle.
We will be selling over 100 big, stout, 2-year-old virgin bulls. As always, these
bulls are our top end. They are not picked over, and come from over 250 head of
Dethlefs Family bull calves. They have never been fed hard and have been developed on pasture
Front: Clayton, Dianna, Jerry & Capri
Back: so they get plenty of exercise.
Cody, Callie, Dar, Gary, Emily & Connor
Our true pride and joy is our cow herd. We believe in culling our cow herd hard,
demanding that our cows wean heavy calves, breed back on time, and hold their
body condition throughout the year. Our cows are not bred for light birth weights,
they are bred to calve easily. There is a difference. Because of this, you will find
good bulls in this sale from the start to the end. We truly believe you cannot find a
better set of 2-year-old bulls anywhere.
We are breeding bulls to work for the commercial customer, not following flashy
trends. Every year we scour through the AI sire books we get, often times even
getting to lay eyes on many of these bulls. More often than not, we have much
better success with sires we are able to go out and purchase ourselves, or sires
that we home raise. We spend countless hours and drive thousands of miles
looking for the best bulls we can find to fit our program.
Connor, Gary, Jerry & Clayton
We offer 2-year-olds for a number of reasons. The reason for us is so we don’t
have to calve in a lot, and can calve on pasture in March/April. The reason for our
customers is so they can buy a bull with confidence knowing that he will be able
to service more cows his first year, hold his body condition, and not wear out. We
are very proud of the fact that you can see what you’re getting with a 2-year-old
compared to a yearling.
Just like last year, lots 1-29 are genomic tested. Most of the bulls’ growth EPDs
increased substantially. Because of that, it would be safe to say that the bulls
we did not genomic test would also have more growth than their current EPDs
indicate.
Jerry: 308-372-3200
Gary: 308-383-1855 We hope the good Lord sent some rain your way. We were really fortunate to have
good moisture this summer, it’s really amazing what things look like when it rains
Connor: 308-383-6229 every once in a while. Cattle prices are the bright spot of all the things going on
Clayton: 308-383-8933 right now and the future looks bright for cattleman. As always, we would love for
you to stop by to look at the cattle and visit. Be sure to join us for lunch on sale
day.
