P. 2
Hello from the TNT Ranch!
Welcome to our 39th Annual Bull Sale! We continue to be blessed with another excep-
tional sale in 2023 thanks to all our top-end customers. We had such amazing support
from both past and new customers and friends. It was another wonderful, emotional
day for both my family and my parents, seeing TNT continue to succeed with the next
generation.
We continue to be busy chasing after our 6 kids on a daily basis! They are all very
active in many school and community activities, but we still make sure that they find
time to help out on the ranch! Trenton is at NDSCS majoring in Electrical Technology
and is loving it, but we sure miss his help, and he admits he misses the ranch work as
well. We were glad to hear that!! All the kids play a big role in the day-to-day activ- Gabriel & Shanon Erbele, Trenton (19) Teagan, (17),
ities, and we love the various interests they have in the ranch, we certainly couldn’t Dawson (13) Tarryn (10), Dylan (6) & Sutton (5)
do it without all their help! The oldest three kids have purchased some registered
heifers and Teagan has her first bull in this year’s sale. Gabe’s brother Paul and dad, Robert, are
a big part of the operation as well. His brother Matthew also comes home for a few months to help with various jobs around the
ranch and is looking to move back home. It will be great to have him here permanently, especially with the older kids off at college. We are
very appreciative that they are willing and able to help us make this all possible.
We continue to grow our herd and will be calving 370 registered cows this year along with 30 recipient cows. We began purchasing cows
from Dad and Mom in 2014 and have continued to grow our herd from theirs ever since. Dad will also be selling 30 of his bulls with us this
year as well. With increasing our herd numbers, we had a larger number of excellent bulls in the sale pen, so we did increase our offering by
10 head. We feel they are just as good from the first to the last as in years past. As you will notice in the catalog, we added and area to feature
our newly purchased herd sires. We are extremely excited about the bulls we bought and are anxious to calve this year’s crop. Many of them
were high selling, sale-topping bulls, that conform nicely to the parameters we have for our herd. They were chosen for their cow family
strengths that contribute to our maternal expectations of highly productive, strong producing cows with added longevity, while adding value
through their phenotype, profit and performance aspects as well.
We do not creep feed the calves, so what you see is what the dam produced. We came into calving season with the most snow we had seen
in years and extremely cold temperatures, which made calving a bit of a challenge. With record setting snow, it was a tough spring trying to
get the pairs out to pasture when there were not fences to be seen. We managed to survive as we always do, and it did allow us to start off the
spring with a lot of green grass. We were dry but had timely, small shots of rain to keep things from getting real bad. We weaned the calves
the beginning of October and the calves weaned off heavier and normal and looked excellent on pastures. Our fall has been extremely mild,
and the bulls have really done well. We have them on a lighter ration than in the past due to the nice weather and they have still managed to
surpass our normal gains. Dad had one of the wettest years on record, one he will never forget! Dad’s bulls were weaned and raised at his
place until October 25th, so they are in their own contemporary for weaning, but were included with ours from then on. We feel ratioing the
bull in one large contemporary group gives you a more accurate comparison against the whole herd. There the bulls are fed a TMR ration
and are not being pushed hard, being worked up to what they are currently being fed in mid-December. We really like this ration that has a
high percentage of high-moisture alfalfa baleage in it, which makes the ration higher in protein and they consume it really well. This ration
is designed for a 3.25 to 3.50 gain and this year they were averaging 3.99 on a 96-day test. We feel the extremely mild weather, performance
minded genetics and choosing the very top end of all the bulls born at both places helps contribute to their higher gain.
Same as last year, the bulls will not go through the ring, but will sell by video with Seth Weishaar as our auctioneer. The bulls will be
penned right outside the sale facility by 9 a.m. for your viewing and will stay in those pens until the conclusion of the sale. The sale will be
broadcast live on DVAuction and we will have sale reps here and phone bidding will be available for anyone who isn’t able to attend. We will
have a video of each bull on our website and on DVAuction. We do encourage you to try to get out and see the bulls in person ahead of sale
day. They are all being fed at our ranch at Lehr. Don’t hesitate to call us or Dad to go over any of the bulls.
We invite you to come to the ranch any time and view the cattle and see the way we manage our herd. We feel this is another tremendous
offering of bulls that we are proud to represent. All but four of the bull are out of dams that were raised on the TNT Ranch. We feel this shows
the ability of our home-raised cows to raise top end bulls from the first to the last. We place a strong emphasis on fleshing ability, perfor-
mance, docility, udder quality, and high maternal traits. We are proud of our cattle and feel you will be proud of “The Explosive Difference”
they will make for you. We, along with Dad, truly have a passion for this business and love breeding cattle with the never-ending pursuit
to try to make them better. Dad and mom have done so much for the Simmental breed, and we hope that with their continued guidance and
support, we can continue to carry-on that impact for years and generations to come. We will continue to stand behind what we sell just as Dad
and Mom have, with high integrity and honesty backing all of our business operations. Thank you for your current and past interest in TNT
Simmentals!
Sincerely, Shanon, Gabriel and Family
