Home On The Range Quality Genetics Built on a Heritage of Commitment
Home On The Range Program
For the fifteenth year in a row, Home On The Range is
participating in the embryo transfer program. Home
On The Range has entered into a contract with Open A
Angus (Jim Arthaud) and Heart River Genetics (Annette
Steffan). The staff and children bring in the cows,
implant the CIDRs (a progesterone impregnated devise),
inject GnRH (gonadotropin hormone), remove the
CIDRs and, finally, the embryologist transfers the frozen
embryo into the cow.
The children are a little apprehensive at first, never really
being around cattle and such a procedure, but once they
get comfortable and know what their job is, the take
responsibility. They put in ear tags and even lean how
to palpate the cow later to see if she is pregnant.
It is a great program for Home On The Range and teach-
ing children about cattle and animal reproduction.
