P. 2

Dear neighbors, friends and fellow cattlemen,

We want to welcome you to our inaugural angus production sale. In the past we have offered our bulls private treaty suc-
cessfully but feel that with the quality of seedstock that we have assembled it is time to offer the bulls through a public auc-
tion. Our family takes great pride in selecting and mating genetics from some of the most proven cow families in the angus
breed and matching them with top of the breed angus bulls. We have built our selections through an extensive ET program
and have sourced some of the most proven and genetically superior angus females for our donor pen. The results have been
nothing short of amazing. The females that we are placing back into our herd will provide generations of long lasting, func-
tional cows. These cows will produce top quality bull calves that will provide our customers with pounds heavy production
and heifer calves that will be highly sought after for replacements. We have also carefully selected angus breeding bulls from
top shelf programs with decades of breeding behind them. Ellingson Badlands 0285 is and will always be our number one
breeding bull. He is special in kind and just makes them uniform and right no matter what you use him on.

When you look through the offering you will see many flush mating’s that really excite both the registered and commercial
cattleman. They are phenotypic and genotypic standouts. The Renovation 6822 calves really stand out for performance and
should leave you with daughters that are the right kind. The Badlands 0285 calves are calving ease with the performance
that you need to make your pay weight. Three Rivers offers many high-performance sons that will catch your eye. Look for
Landmark, Bloodline, Drag Iron, and a stout Renown son in the offering. In total we are offering 40 registered yearling angus
bulls with bulls that will work for everyone. In the end we have a commercial herd also and would not hesitate to use any bull
in the offering in our own herd.

The bulls have been fed a high roughage ration prepared by Hubbard Feeds to ensure foot quality and years of service. They
have gained well on test and continue to grow as we progress into early spring. They are on a full vaccination and mineral
program and will be semen tested before delivery. Our registered cows are cared for exactly like our commercial cows. They
must do it in the real world with no pampering. This means we can put a product out for you that will step right into their
role as breeding bulls and not fall apart. We have a long tradition of supplying commercial bred heifers that will last in any
program and are confident that our bulls will too.

I hesitated to write this paragraph but thought you should know some facts about the summer. Although most of the sur-
rounding area had a very good, wet growing season, our little part of the world was not so fortunate. Our cattle fought un-
grateful drought conditions, horrendous prolonged heat and unrelenting fly pressure. The hay crop was 10% normal and the
early small grains where a disaster. Luckily it started raining in late July and August and that saved the summer with green
grass finally growing (better late than never). With that most producers saw a significant decrease in calf weaning weights.
Some as high as 50-70 pounds from normal and an increase in open cows in the fall. This did not spare the bull calves
either and weights were lower than normal. Thankfully genetics stepped up and the bulls gained that weight back when they
received a balanced ration at weaning time. So with that, I assure you that genetics do pay.

As we breed for the future know that the cow always comes first on our ranch. The donors that we select must be highly
proven and fertile. The bulls will also complement the donor cows with performance and maternal genetics built in. We are
excited about this first sale and for the future. We take cattle seriously as it is our life. Know that we make all decisions with
you the cattleman in mind. Thank you for considering our offering and we look forward to talking Angus cattle with you on
              March 17th.
              Sincerely, Katus Ranch
