This summer we had an outbreak of stable flies. These flies reside
in the grass and feed on the bellies and legs of the cattle. Most
fly control products do not work on them. By the time we realized
how bad of a problem they were and found a product that was
supposed to work some of the cattle were bitten so badly that their
legs and udders were completely raw. We believe some of these
calves were kicked off their mothers at this point which we are
guessing was as early as mid July. We had a group of calves that
weaned off much lighter than what would be expected from their
matings. A lot of these calves made up a bunch of that ground in
the feedlot. You will see a number of bulls with low weaning ratios
and much higher yearling ratios. We stand behind these genetics
100% and believe they will be just like the bulls you have bought
from us in the past.
