Welcome
Quality Genetics Built on a Heritage of Commitment

        Dear Friends,

Welcome to the 13th Annual joint sale of Heart River Ranch Red Angus and Open A Angus. 2018 was a
welcome recovery year after of course bearing through one of the coldest and wettest calving seasons that
many of us hope not to experience again. The fact remains that the challenges of nature keeps the focus sharp
to retain sight of the convenience traits that make survival possible.

Our programs continue to focus on genetics that are in synch with the environments in which we attempt to
optimize production while maintaining the integrity of the land, water and wildlife. Continued pressure on cow
size and effi ciency, fertility, feet and legs, udders and mothering ability is used to provide genetics that take
care of the ranch and the rancher as a primary objective. Our cattle survive on grass, water and mineral in an
open range environment where elevation change and slope are an everyday occurrence. Those which don’t
adapt don’t go through the turn out gate again.

Once again, we thank everyone for their continued interest and patronage of the product we strive to provide.
More than anything the association and friendships are the most gratifying benefi t of being in the cattle
        business for us.

Additional information will be provided and posted online as sale day approaches and as data is collected at
www.openaangus.com and www.heartrivergenetics.com. Look for carcass ultrasound data, videos and updated
EPDS as they become available. Feel free to come and inspect the bulls at your leisure at the feedlot 4 miles
south of Belfi eld on highway 85, then ½ mile west on 40th Street SW. We invite your comments and questions
        at any time.

We will have an informal program at the feedlot, for the afternoon of March 12th, 2019. Tim and Karen
Stevenson will provide a discussion and demonstration on the training and use of cattle dogs in herd
management. Tim and Karen have extensive experience in training and breeding cattle dogs and their use
of dogs is incorporated into the operation daily at our location in SD. When moving and working cattle it is
common for Tim and Karen to be using as many as fi ve dogs while horseback.

Join us for the evening of March 12th in the sale barn for a social and prime rib dinner and where we will hear
from the residents at Home On The Range. Come early, inspect the bulls and have an enjoyable afternoon and
evening. We appreciate your friendship and interest in our programs.
