We fi rst took noticed of the sire, Spur Franchise of Garton, when we attended the McDon-
SPUR FRANCHISE OF GARTON nell Angus Sale in May of 2017 and saw offspring. The bulls out of him were uniform, had
great dispositions, good feet and consistent phenotype and Spur Franchise of Garton had
a red gene! His performance data, 63# birth weight, 864# Weaning weight, 1392# YW, 42cm scrotal, Adj REA of 16.9 / 117 ratio and Adj IMF of 5.53/ 145 ratio was also noteworthy. If that
wasn’t enough he also ranked as one of the top bulls when he was RFI tested as a yearling and he now ranks in the top 1/3 of his contemporaries in 16 out of 18 EPD traits under the BOLT
EPDs. Finally, he is in the top 1% of the breed for Marbling and REA. Our only regret to date is that we did not use him more. We bred 6 head and got 4 red bulls and one red heifer.

We followed this bull for a couple years as the sire of some impressive moderate deep
RED FLYING K MAX 159Y bodied bred heifers offered in the Triple SSS sale in Canada. Phenotypically he just stood
out in the crowd for traits we wanted to emphasize in our herd, moderate frame, extra
volume, easy keeping, muscle shape and maternal. He ranks in the top 15% of the breed for HB, DMI, ME and Stay. We were fortunate to team up with Sand Bur Ridge and Arrowsmith
Red Angus to be able to own a semen interest in the bull and we will continue to use him heavily.

We don’t know if Ross Knott, the breeder of this bull, knew when he named this bull that
RIDGE TRAVELER 5412 his name would fi t a bull so well. This is a bull that moves with agility and is tireless
when it comes to breeding cows. Over the years we have found that bulls like this are
built on the foundation of excellent feet and legs or else they would not be athletes. You won’t fi nd many outliers in his performance or EPDs, but you will notice his daughters and the
consistent pattern he stamps on his progeny. His fi rst daughters will calve by sale time and his sons topped last year’s sale. Owned with Sand Bur Ridge Red Angus.
