I hope I don’t offend too many people with this comment but here is where numbers on paper and
knowledge of cow families don’t match up. Don’t start a riot over my comments! We are all entitled
NER Copper Queen 2657, great granddam to our own opinions but I may throw the BS fl ag here. Her maternal great granddam, the 122 cow,
was in our herd until the age of 12 when she slipped on ice and stifl ed and we had to put her down.
Her maternal grandsire Mojito was sold just a year ago and ok, fi ne, we hadn’t bred much to him in
the past couple of years but that still put him in service at age 8. At the time of writing this footnote,
the Copper Queen cow is still standing 650 yards from the house as we speak and, for someone
(named John) who has always offered all the heifer calves born on his place, he sure seems to
be able to hang on to or buy back the 122 offspring. The Stayability number of this cow can be
scratched off her pedigree because I just don’t believe it to be true! I would take a gamble on her
and if you don’t, I guarantee I know we have one true cattleman in the seats that can’t wait to get his
hands on another daughter of this cow line.
