Lizzo is a stunning dapple gray Percheron Quarter Horse cross
mare standing right at 15.3 and tipping the scales around
1400 pounds. 1400 pounds of gentle giant, that is! She is the
sweetest and most docile mare you could ever ask for! Lizzo knows she is
one fi ne chunk of horse fl esh and is sure to get you noticed anywhere you
take her! She will let the kiddos crawl all over her and stands steady as a
rock, almost as if she likes to see how many can make it to the top! Lizzo
will ride in anything you would like, but we have mainly ridden her in a war
bridle or with a little loop around her neck. She is soft and supple and will
listen to the tiniest of cues, so she really makes learning to ride effortless
for her little riders. If you fi nd her size intimidating, she has a neat trick to
make mounting easier for you! Just hop on a mounting block and she will
side-pass right over and pick you up for your ride. She is very versatile,
and loves being exposed to new things so she would be a trail riders
dream! She has fi lled her resume with packing kids around the ranch,
shagging renegade bulls in the arena and out in the hills, has dabbled on
the head side team roping in the arena (although she is unlikely to win any
fast time checks!), has done all of the 4-H and playday events, and drug
her fair share of calves to the fi re! We have used her to drag stubborn bulls
out of the brush, to rope and doctor heifers on pasture, playing in the river,
and have shown her a reining pattern or two! She will watch a cow like a
14-hand cutter will and can hold her own in the show pen with her pint
sized counterparts! If you have a youngster just starting out and needing a
confi dence boost, Lizzo is your gal! She will walk on eggshells to take care
of her rider and will stop if she feels them tip to one side or another. Yet
she can step right back up and cover some country for you on the ranch.
Little kids love pretending she is the Mount Everest of horses and will try
their best moves to crawl in the saddle and she will stand until they reach
the top and are ready to ride. She knows the barrel and pole patterns, has
roped live steers out of the box in the arena, tracked the Heel-O-Matic
with a newbie roper, and played in the river on a hot summer day with the
kids. Don’t let her size fool you, she is one heck of a babysitter! She will
take care of your kids and family in the arena or out in the hills. You would
be hard pressed to fi nd a more reliable and versatile mare and her striking
good looks are just icing on the cake! You will be the talk of the barn with
a mare like Lizzo and you will have the hearts of all the little kids (and
adults alike) who see her walk by! Don’t let her pass you by, you’ll spend a
lifetime looking for another like her!
