P. 4
Welcome
On behalf of all of us here at Schnabel Ranch, I would like to welcome you to our annual production sale. We are a family
run operation consisting of 400 registered females. We focus very hard on having a strong maternal cow herd that can raise
a big calf and breed back to be a solid foundation to develop cattle that will be functional and marketable. We do NOT creep
feed any of the calves as we expect them to grow & excel with mother’s milk and grass alone. We expect our cows to be low
input and not need all kinds of extra pampering.
The bulls were weaned Oct. 15th. They were on a 48 Mcal ration until Dec. 20th when we increased them to a 50 Mcal.
These rations are similar rations that we have used in previous years. Dewayne Siebrasse of Cattlecents Consulting (605-
228-5788) has developed these rations to achieve maximum growth while keeping the bulls athletically sound and to have
longevity. The rations consist of ground oats hay, ground alfalfa hay, rolled high moisture corn, green chopped oats/peas,
corn silage, & custom liquid protein. All our feedstuffs are 100% homegrown. They also always have free choice salt and Rio
Nutrition supplement.
All of our cattle are on a strict herd health program put together with the Hosmer Vet Clinic (Dr. Holly Roe Johnson). They
have been given all recommended vaccinations as well as boosters.
We have invested into doing DNA work on EVERY cow on the place to be able to provide our customers with the most
information possible. Every bull has also been tested to verify parentage, coat color, horned/polled status, has genomically
enhanced EPDs as well as a RIGHTCHOICE score given to them.
Supplement sheets will be available sale day with ADG, adjusted YW, scrotal and ultrasound data.
Again, this year we will retain 1/3 semen interest in all our bulls. You will be buying full possession and 2/3 semen rights.
All bulls will have a video which will be able to be viewed at www.dvauction.com. Feel free to watch the videos, watch the
bulls live in the ring sale day and bid here if you can not make it sale day.
Due to the COVID-19 situation this year and some people having concerns with crowds, you are more than welcome to
come to the ranch and view the bulls at your own discretion anytime up until Feb. 19th.
Thank you for your interest in our program. Please feel free to contact us anytime to visit about the cattle and any questions
you may have. Visitors are always welcome at the ranch to view the bulls or cow herd anytime.
