P. 3
Welcome
Welcome to our 2022 production sale! It is hard to believe that this is the 20th year that we have
been raising and marketing bulls. When I started selling bulls privately, I never expected that we
would be so blessed to gain so many new friends that we call customers. This has been a very
challenging year for numerous ranchers needing to make extremely challenging decisions due to
drought. We are a family operation and all 4 of our kids are always out helping and developing a
passion for the cattle, just ask the kids and they will probably talk your ear off.
We focus very hard on having a strong maternal cow herd. I always say you can’t build a house on
a weak foundation, and I feel that is the same for a cow herd. You need a solid foundation to develop cattle that will be functional and marketable. We do
NOT creep feed any of the calves as we expect them to grow and excel with mother’s milk and grass alone. Disposition is EXTREMELY important to us with
the kids always with the cows.
The bulls are being fed similar rations that we have used for the last few years developed by Dewayne Siebrasse of Cattlecents Consulting (605-228-5788).
He has developed rations to achieve maximum growth while keeping the bulls athletically sound and to have longevity. The rations this year we have limited
the bulls to a maximum of only 12.5# of corn along with a combination of oat/pea haylage, corn silage, oats hay, alfalfa hay, and 1.5 oz RIO backgrounder
loose mineral. All our feedstuffs are 100% homegrown. They also always have free choice salt and Rio Nutrition tubs.
All cattle are on a strict herd health program put together with the Hosmer Vet Clinic (Dr. Holly Roe Johnson)
Supplement sheets will be available sale day with genomically enhanced EPDs, coat color, horn/poll, ADG, adj YW, carcass ultrasound, and scrotal measure-
ments.
Again, this year we will be retaining 1/3 semen interest on all the bulls. You will be buying full possession and 2/3 semen rights.
Thank you for your interest in our program. Please feel free to contact us at any time, follow us on Facebook, or visit our website www.srsimms.com to
learn more about the cattle. Visitors are always welcome to view the bulls prior to the sale.
Thanks,

Welcome to our 2022 bull sale. It seems like just yesterday we sold our first Simmental bulls but
this year will be 40 years. The old saying of “time flies when you are having fun” must be true. We
have customers that have been buying our bulls for many of those years.
The past year was challenging at times and good at the other time. The dry spring made for an easy
calving year, but the drought made for a poor hay and crop year. The late September and October
rains were welcome and gave us all hope for a better next year.
The calves did quite well this summer even with the dry conditions. The dry grass always seems to have a little more punch. As in the past, the
bulls have been fed the same type of rations consisting of ground hay, corn silage, modified distillers and corn.
All the bulls have been DNA tested for homozygous black, horned/polled, and the diluter gene. Also, all have been genomic tested to add to the
accuracy of the EPDs. These results will be available sale day and also online at DVAuction.com along with videos of the bulls.
As always you are welcome to come view the bulls at the ranch.
Thank you for your interest,
Bruce Flittie, Flittie Simmentals
