OLAND

        Welcome Red Angus

                                             Welcome!

Welcome to our second annual bull sale. We are offering 25 exceptional bulls for sale
this year. What a winter we just endured! Hopefully all this snow leads to lush green
pastures and full stock ponds for producers around the state. 2022 was another
challenging year. We were lucky and missed out on the April blizzards that most
in the state endured. Instead, we received inches of rain at a time along with the
cold temperatures that provided their own challenges during calving. All that rain
eventually soaked in and left us with bountiful grass that was a welcome sight. The
tall grass made for a good hay crop, however, when the rains shut off mid-summer
the grass dried up and that tall, rank grass seemed to lack the punch it normally has.
The calves did wean off lighter as a result but our cows ended up breeding up very
                                             well considering.

The bulls are developed slowly on a low mega-cal TMR that never exceeds a 50
mega-cal. We start them out on a 44 mega-cal at weaning and gradually increase to
a 50. We start backing them back down around the first of March depending upon the
weather and temperature and they will be back down to a 44 by delivery. We don’t
push the bulls hard because we don’t want them to fall apart during the breeding
season. They’re developed to last for many years. The average daily gain data you
Oland Red Angus see is not from a “test” period. It is from the time we record weaning weights, at
Klay & Kassi Oland weaning time, until we record yearling weights at the end of February. We shoot for a
2.5 average daily gain as we feel this is adequate for developing breeding bulls.

Leonard, ND 58052 We place a lot of emphasis on the mother cow here, and that’s why we display their
age, MPPA, udder and teat score with their son’s data. Our cows are pastured in
the sand hills of southeastern North Dakota on the edge of the Sheyenne National
Phone: 701-238-2492 Grasslands. They are not pampered and must work for a living. Our calves never
Email: klay.oland@gmail.com receive creep feed, that’s the cows job. We do not under-stock our pastures in an
Facebook: Oland Red Angus attempt to boost our weaning weights and keep all the cows in good shape. We run
our purebred cows at the same stocking rate as our commercial herd so that the data
you’re seeing is legitimate. This also helps us recognize differences in the fleshing
ability of our cows in an order to cull those that can’t maintain adequate body
                                             condition while raising their calf.

We cull hard here, especially for feet. We wouldn’t want to buy a bull out of a cow with
bad feet or udders and believe that nobody else would either. That’s why we never
offer progeny for sale out of cows with those traits and avoid breeding to sires known
to produce offspring with poor foot quality. It doesn’t matter how good their EPD’s are,
if they have bad feet, they’re culled.

Customer satisfaction is our number one goal. We want to know how the bulls are
working for you. Give us a call or stop by anytime, and we can discuss which bulls
would work best in your operation. Our cowherd is open for viewing year-round and
we’d like to show you the dams behind the bulls.

As always, we stand behind our cattle 100%. Thank you for your interest in our
                                             program.

                                             Sincerely,
                                             Klay Oland
