Welcome

Welcome to our 2024 production sale. As I write this, we are on our third straight day of extreme
cold and wind causing many -40 to -65 degree wind chills. 2023 was a very challenging year with
lots of highs and lows. Starting with the multiple winter storms everyone endured this spring to
bountiful harvests of crops and feedstuffs, plus the wonderful cattle prices and weather we had to
finish out the year. It’s been a busy year between chasing the kids around throughout various sports
seasons, 4-H activities, and managing all the cattle and crops. We are a family operation and all 4
of our kids are always out helping and developing a passion for the cattle, just ask the kids and they
will probably talk your ear off about their favorite ones they have.

We focus very hard on having a strong maternal cow herd. I always say you can’t build a house on a weak foundation, and I feel that is the same for a cow
herd, you need a solid foundation to develop cattle that will be functional and marketable. We do NOT creep feed any of the calves, as we expect them to
grow and excel with their mother’s milk and grass alone. Disposition is EXTREMELY important to us with the kids always with the cows.

The bulls are being fed similar rations that we have used for the last few years developed by Blair Andrews at Dakota Plains Feed and Grain in Hecla, SD.
She has developed rations to achieve maximum growth while keeping the bulls athletically sound and to have longevity. The rations this year are a combi-
nation of oat/pea haylage, corn silage, oats hay, alfalfa hay, and 1.5 oz. RIO backgrounder loose mineral. We might sacrifice a little in ADG but feel we will
have better longevity. All our feedstuffs are 100% homegrown. They always have free choice salt and Rio Nutrition tubs.

All cattle are on a strict herd health program put together with the Hosmer Vet Clinic (Dr. Holly Roe Johnson 605-283-2278). All bulls are DNA tested with
genomically-enhanced EPDs, parent verified, coat color, horn/poll, ADG, adj. YW, carcass ultrasound, and scrotal measurements. Supplement sheets will be
available sale day for any information that didn’t make the catalog as well as RightChoice scores.

Again, this year we will be retaining 1/3 semen interest on all the bulls. You will be buying full possession and 2/3 semen rights.

Thank you for your interest in our program. Please feel free to contact us at any time, follow us on Facebook, or visit our website www.srsimms.com to
learn more about the cattle. Visitors are always welcome to view the bulls prior to the sale.

        Thanks,

Tom & Meghan Schnabel, Schnabel Ranch Simmentals
