Page 2 - Red Hill Farms Bulls & Females of Fall IV Sale – Oct. 27, 2018 Red Angus
P. 2

Dear Friends,

For all things there is a season … Bull sale season is typically in the spring, even
at Red Hill. We are thankful for your support and purchases at our past 13 spring
bull sales and look forward to next March! However, we recognize many of our
commercial bull buyers calve in the fall and need bulls to service their cows this
time of year. For the fourth year, we are offering a select group of bulls on October
27 to help meet our commercial customers’ needs. New for this year’s sale – we
have added females to the offering, partially resulting from decreased acreage to
        pasture our cattle.

As many of you may be aware, both the American Simmental Association and the
Red Angus Association of America transitioned to the IGS multi-breed evaluation
enabled by BOLT technology within the past six months. While our family had
been anticipating the release of this new technology and multi-breed evaluation
for years, our excitement has faded with apparent fl aws and inconsistencies in
the EPDs. We will continue to work with the associations to identify issues and
understand the variations from past evaluations. The differences you may see in
our EPDs do not change the cattle themselves or our commitment to producing
forage-adaptable cattle with a focus on the female!
When you buy a bull to breed your cows from Red Hill, you are purchasing part of
the Red Hill program – a program that measures success by your profi tability. Red
Hill cattle have been selected to improve economically relevant traits with a goal
of optimizing the practicality and profi tability for our commercial customers. We
focus on documented breed-leading production traits while maintaining phenotyp-
ically pleasing cattle. Even so, our program doesn’t stop at the animals we sell. We
believe in the importance of offering services to our customers – services that will
increase the value of your herd. Ask us about the services we offer!
A major reward of the seedstock business is the opportunity to enjoy the friendship
and fellowship of our customers and fellow breeders. You are always welcome to
visit our farm. We intend to collect a very comprehensive data set and share all the
information with you, the customer. Please review our sale offering and contact us
if you have questions. We hope to see you on October 27th!
