271B was retained at Red Hill because of his unique pedigree, slick hair coat, and calf disposition along with
balance in phenotype and performance. We had not kept a Red Angus bull in several years for our own use,
but we decided the time was right with this young prospect. As most observers of our program have noticed,
we have used several Beckton bulls over the years. After intensively studying the sires at Beckton’s, we iden-
tifi ed S107 as a bull that had some intangible traits that might benefi t our breeding program – short and slick
hair, extra rib and body, good feet and calm dispositions. We chose to sample him in our program. S107 sired
some very nice sons and daughters, but it was not until this second generation that we found an S107 bred
bull to use more heavily in our program. 271B is linebred to Beckton Julian 7526—he traces back to 7526
fourteen times (eight on the top of his pedigree and six on the bottom).
As scan time approached in the fall of 2015, 271B caught the eye of Bart and Gordon. He displayed excep-
tional feet and design with extra thickness and dimension. He was fi rst out of 15 contemporary bulls for
%IMF while being above average for REA and Yearling Weight. His hair is short and testicles are excellent.
271B’s sire, 190Z, is an S107 son that sold in our 2014 sale to L. J. Watson (KY). We had used 190Z the
fall prior to the sale to clean up our Red Angus heifers. 190Z’s dam is the only daughter of LT142 in the Red
Hill herd. She is from our popular and productive Barmaid cow family and has consistently weaned above
        average calves.
271B’s dam, 195Z, is an S107 daughter that is a light-colored cow with a nice udder. She had 271B as a
two-year-old and calved in the fall of 2015 as a three-year-old. Calving interval of 354 days. 195Z has been
selected as a Red Hill donor. 195Z’s dam, 204X, has calved regularly and produced four heifers retained by
Red Hill. She is also from the same cow family as RHF-CCCH P707 Nebula 1A, a bull used for two seasons at
Red Hill and co-owned with Holman and Rogers (NC).
At Red Hill we see the importance of collecting all the data, all the time. The more we collect, the more we are
excited about the impact 271B can have on our program. Owned with GENEX.
