Yearling Commercial Females Red Hill Farms – Fall 2018
                L.J. Watson Family (Liberty, KY)
L.J. Watson is a “no non-sense cattle producer” who has been associated with Red Hill
from the beginning. His approach is to use his outstanding forage program in a manner to
allow him to harvest an optimal level of pounds per acre. L.J. has found that he can best
accomplish his goal by using more moderate framed cattle that adapt well to his predom-
inantly KY 31 fescue pastures. L.J. is always striving for slick haired females that fl esh
easily on his forage program. From a genetics stand-point, L.J. always selects moderate
framed bulls with the best EPD profi les and highest HerdBuilder Index values he can afford.
L.J. has used Red Angus and the most moderate framed Red Hill Simmental and SimAngus
bulls to produce cattle with a high degree of hybrid vigor.

L.J. is a “never, ever” producer who has been GAP certifi ed so that his cattle can fi t into
grass fi nishing operations. In addition, L.J. grass fi nishes any heifers that fail to breed in
his 60-day gestation period. L.J. has excellent demand for his heifers from producers in-
terested in grass fi nishing or those who wish to grain fi nish to lighter carcass weights. L.J.
is a “stickler” for convenience traits. His cattle excel for disposition, udders, and structural
        soundness.
