Fall 2018 – Red Hill Farms Yearling Commerical Females
Scott Hines and Family (Liberty, KY)
Scott Hines and his family have made tremendous progress during the last 10 years
with both their cattle production and their forage production. Scott always does diligent
homework in selecting his bulls, and fortunately he has used Red Hill bulls that have done
a fantastic job of siring adaptable, highly fertile females. Scott has been retaining heifers
from his most productive cows, and he has developed a great young cow herd. This family
optimizes hybrid vigor by alternating between Red Angus and Simmental/SimAngus bulls.
The Hines operation is a fall calving herd with a 60-day breeding season.
In order to run more cows, the Hines operation has begun to use winter annuals for both
pasture and spring hay production. In addition, Scott has corn silage for winter feeding
when needed. This operation is truly a forage based operation, but creativity with winter
annuals and corn silage has allowed for herd expansion. Scott is offering a select group of
heifers from his replacement pen.
